Academic Exploration Program
The Academic Exploration Program provides academic advising services
and programs to undergraduate students, during their first year of
enrollment at UCF, who have not chosen an academic major.

Biofeedback
Biofeedback consists of a six-session relaxation-training program
at the Counseling Center Annex, building 27.
This is a free service to UCF students. Biofeedback helps individuals
become more aware of their body’s reactions to stress and teaches
stress-reducing techniques. Below are some professional biofeedback

Services and Experiential Learning
Career Services and Experiential Learning (Farrell Commons, Room 185;
823-2361) helps students who need information regarding job placement,
employment listings, on-campus recruitment, federal government employment,
statewide job fairs, career expos, internships, interviewing techniques,
resume writing, and other career planning skills.
Child Abuse Reporting
To report suspected cases of abuse and neglect, call the Florida Department
of Children & Families Safety & Preservation at 800-96ABUSE
(800-962-2873).
Child Care (Creative School for Children)
The Creative School is located across the street from the
Student Resource Center and the phone number is 823-2726. Consider
this on-campus facility if you have a child or children and need child
care. The child must be at least two (2) years of age and potty-trained
to be eligible. There is usually is a waiting list for this service,
although students are given preference over staff and faculty.

For a variety of reasons, students may choose to see a counselor or
psychologist in the community rather than on campus. This list is
intended to offer suggestions for private practitioners in the community.

Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, and Transgendered
Students
1. The
UCF Gay, Lesbian & Bisexual Student Union is a fellowship
of men and women who share the common bond of interest in gay/lesbian
concerns. Students can meet others who are also gay or lesbian,
or get involved with social and political activities.
2. The Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual Community Center,
known as “The Center.” 946 N. Mills Avenue, Orlando,
FL 32803. Phone: 407-228-8272. Among the services offered by The
Center are individual and group counseling (minimal cost), AIDS
testing, a library, and a newsletter. See their web site at www.glbcc.org.
3. Allies
is a University visual support initiative here at UCF.
HIV Testing
If a student is interested in being tested for HIV, s/he can contact
the HIV-Aids Education Office (REACH Office Trailer 617; 823-2437
/ 823-AIDS). Testing is done with an Orasure test; no blood is taken.
They take walk-ins or by appointment. Results are confidential or
anonymous. The results are back in about 3 weeks. The test costs
$10.00.
International Students
The International
Student and Scholar Services office provides information, programs,
and activities for international students. (823-2337).

agency provides UCF students with free legal advice or counseling

Multicultural Academic & Support Services (Millican

system designed to connect multicultural students to the university.
There are various student associations on
campus for multicultural students, such as the African-American

If you are a "Non-Traditional Student" (over 25 years
of age, married, have children, have had a break in your education,
or work full time and attend school part time), you might consider

is to provide support services during regular as well as off-hours

Pregnancy
The Student Health Service provides pregnancy testing. However,
they refer out either to qualified medical practitioners or
to agencies to deal with prenatal examinations, childbirth classes,
family planning, and decisions about whether to abort, adopt,
or keep a baby.

R.E.A.C.H. Peer Education
The mission of REACH Peer Education is to provide UCF
students with up to date health information and workshops on
college health issues in hopes of promoting low-risk decision

"Self-Discovery Knights"
Outreach Series
" Self-Discovery Knights," sponsored by the
UCF Counseling Center, is an outreach series which explores
a variety of student development concerns and self-improvement
topics. All programs are held in the Student Union and are free
to students. Refer to the current "Self Discovery Knights"
brochure for a complete list of presentation topics and descriptions,
dates, times, locations, and speakers.
Student Health Services
Student Health Services is located between the Math & Physics Counseling Buildings, and the phone number
is 823-2701.
Study Skills
The Student Academic Resource Center -SARC (113 Phillips
Hall; 823-5130) helps students who:
- Need tutoring or special assistance with
study skills, learning styles, or test taking
- Are in need of the Supplemental Instruction
Program (for students who are taking historically difficult
courses)
- Are seeking someone to do a presentation
on a study skill topic (e.g., Time Management)
- Need a designated place to study (SARC
is open 24 hours a day around the time of midterms and final
exams)
- Need computer tutorials for the GRE,
GMAT, LSAT, and MCAT
- Need CLAST review workshops or classes
for each of the four CLAST sub-tests
UCF Testing Services
Information on CAT-CLAST, CLEP, FTCE, CPT, Food Handler’s
Certification, Foreign Language tests, ACT, PSAT, GPE, and correspondence
exams.
Victim Services

A Victim Advocate is available to assist any member of the University
community, including students, faculty, and staff. The services
include:
- Crisis intervention (providing emotional
support, information on emergency shelters, assistance in
obtaining protection from abuse orders)
- Practical assistance (explaining criminal
justice procedures and the University Judicial System, providing
transportation for court appearances and medical appointments,
filing for financial reimbursement when applicable)
- Information, referral, and education
services.
A Victim Advocate can be reached 24 hours
a day, 7 days a week at the numbers listed above during normal
business hours, or they can be reached through the UCF Police
Department Communications Center at 823-5555. Simply request
that a victim advocate be paged.
Wellness
Center
The Campus Wellness Center (Recreation and Wellness
Center; 823-5841) is for students that are interested in health
and fitness issues, nutrition services, or stress management.
The Office offers the “CHAMP,” which is
the Comprehensive Health Assessment and Motivation Program.
This includes physiological testing, lifestyle choice evaluation
and optional cholesterol screening by a certified Wellness Peer
Consultant. There are two registered dieticians with
nutritional peer consultants available. Biofeedback Therapy
is offered to aid in stress management as well as massage
therapy. Student Wellness Advocate Team (SWAT) is another
good opportunity for students wanting to be more involved on
campus. This registered UCF club is open to anyone interested
in producing events on campus, personal development, friends
and fun.
