Outreach and Presentation Services
The Counseling Center also schedules and participates in formal outreach events designed to reach out the UCF community and enhance the well-being of campus. Please contact the Counseling Center for a complete listing of programs, dates, times and locations. Outreach Presentations and Developmental Programming The Counseling Center presents programs that promote awareness, personal growth and educate students who may have concerns about social, emotional and academic difficulties. The Counseling Center responds to the needs of the UCF community by planning and delivering workshops, formal presentations, seminars, training and outreach to various groups on campus including classes, clubs and organizations, residence halls, athletic teams, resident assistants and orientation teams. While we regret that we do not have the resources and availability to accommodate all requests, we will work with groups or individuals wanting ideas about how to present information on a variety of topics. We typically require at least a two-week advance notice for a presentation request, and an audience of at least 10 participants is preferred. Below is a listing of some of the workshops and programs that are available.
To request a presentation for your class or organization you may contact Teresa Chmelir, Associate Director for Prevention at 407-823-2811, or complete an Outreach Request Form (print and mail or email to tmichael@mail.ucf.edu). "Self-Discovery Knights" is an outreach series presented by the Counseling Center which explores a variety of student development concerns and self-improvement topics. Programs generally include a formal presentation or informal discussion followed by a period of questions and answers or comments. All programs are held in the Student Union and are free to all UCF students, faculty, and staff. For further information, contact Teresa Chmelir, Associate Director for Prevention at 407-823-2811 or email: tmichael@mail.ucf.edu. For a list of current programs go to: www.counseling.sdes.ucf.edu/outreachsdk.html ALLIES is a program created through the UCF Counseling Center for UCF students, staff and faculty members interested in showing visual support for gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender (GLBT) persons at the university. ALLIES will display the official placard in their offices or resident hall rooms after attending an educational workshop called an Allies Advance. This placard will identify people who are willing to provide a safe haven, a listening ear, and support to gay, lesbian, bisexual or transgender persons. EVERYONE IS WELCOME TO ATTEND AN ALLIES ADVANCE TO JUST LEARN MORE ABOUT THE GAY COMMUNTIY. For more information on The Allies Program or attending an Advance go to the Allies website: http://www.counseling.sdes.ucf.edu/allies/home.html. A variety of materials in the form of pamphlets addressing these and many other topics are available through the Counseling Center's Outreach Program free of charge to all members of the UCF community. Many are located in the rack inside the lobby of the Counseling Center. How to Schedule an Outreach Education Program: Fill out an Outreach Request Form and e-mail back to Teresa Chmelir, Associate Director for Prevention at 407-823-2811 or email: tmichael@mail.ucf.edu.
