Student Learning Outcomes

Outcome: 1
Program Area: Training

Creed: Excellence 5.2
All Interns/Trainees (Graduate Students in Training) who participate in the UCF Counseling Center Training Program for 10 months (pre-masters and practicum) or 12 months (pre-doctoral interns) will increase their knowledge, awareness, and skills in the following training competency areas: intake assessment skills, report writing skills, individual brief therapy skills, and group counseling skills

Measure: 1.1 Initial assessment skills: as observed and measured by their supervisors all 4 Mental Health Counselors and 1 Social Work Trainee obtaining a score of at least a 3 for premasters trainees all 2 pre-doctoral interns obtained a 4 on Intake Assessment Skills on the “Intern and Trainee Individual Therapy Knowledge and Skills Evaluation” (page 1); and as measured by trainee/intern written response regarding their intake assessment skills learning expressed on the “Graduate Training Program Evaluation”

Measure: 1.2 Report writing skills: as observed and measured by their supervisors by their supervisor (and disposition team) report review. All 4 Mental Health Counselors and 1 Social Work Trainee a obtained a score of at least a 3 for premasters trainees and all 2 pre-doctoral interns obtained a score of 4 in Report Writing Skills on the “Intern and Trainee Individual Therapy Knowledge and Skills Evaluation” (page1); and as measured by trainee/intern written response regarding their report writing learning expressed on the “Graduate Training Program Evaluation.

Measure: 1.3 Individual brief therapy skills: as observed and measured by their supervisors by their supervisor.  All 4 Mental Health Counselors and 1 Social Work Trainee a obtained a score of at least a 3 for premasters trainees and all 2 pre-doctoral interns obtained a score of 4 in Brief Individual Therapy Skills on the “Intern and Trainee Individual Therapy Knowledge and Skills Evaluation” (page 1); and as measured by trainee/intern written response regarding individual brief therapy skills learning expressed on the “Graduate Training Program Evaluation”.

Measure: 1.4 Group counseling skills: as observed and measured by their supervisors by their supervisor.  All 4 Mental Health Counselors and 1 Social Work Trainee a obtained a score of at least a 3 for premasters trainees and all 2 pre-doctoral interns obtained a score of 4 in Group Counseling Skills on the “Group Therapy Skills Evaluation” (page 2); and as measured by trainee/intern written response regarding their group counseling skills learning expressed on the “Graduate Training Program Evaluation”.

 

Outcome: 2
Program Area: Individual, Group, Couples Counseling

During the fall 2008, spring 2009 and summer 2009 semesters, the Counseling Center will obtain a total sample of 250 completed “Individual Counseling Evaluation Surveys” from students participating in individual counseling. Students who participate in Counseling Center individual counseling will demonstrate self-awareness, coping skills and knowledge of campus and/or community resources.

Measure: 2.1 90% of students who participate in individual counseling will demonstrate newly acquired skills (e.g. ways of thinking, behaviors, emotional coping) by listing one to three new ways of positive functioning learned through their counseling experience:  “In general terms, please describe 3 things you have learned through counseling that have been helpful in dealing with your concerns.”

Measure: 2.2 90% of students who participate in individual counseling will demonstrate newly acquired skills (e.g. ways of thinking, behaviors, emotional coping) as measured by the “Individual Counseling Evaluation Surveys” by indicating they “agree” or “strongly agree” with the following statement: “Helped me learn how to cope better with my concerns.”  

Measure: 2.3 90% of students who participate in individual counseling will demonstrate newly acquired skills (e.g. ways of thinking, behaviors, emotional coping) as measured by the “Individual Counseling Evaluation Surveys”  by indicating they “agree” or “strongly disagree” with the following statement: “Helped me gain greater self-understanding.”

 

Outcome: 3
Program Area: Prevention/Developmental Interventions
 
Creed: Excellence 5.2, 5.3, 5.5
Students who participate in Outreach (e.g. stress reduction, social skills, relationship building) presentations will demonstrate new learned behaviors and/or skills.

Measure: 3.1 90% of students who participate in Outreach presentations will demonstrate new learned behaviors as measured by the evaluation survey that they “agree” or “strongly agree” with the following statement: “I learned new skills or useful information from this presentation.”

Measure: 3.2 90% of students who participate in Outreach presentations will demonstrate new learned behaviors by listing one to three newly acquired skills.   

 

Outcome: 4
Program Area: Prevention/Developmental Interventions

Creed: Community 3.2; 3.4
Students who participate in QPR training (Question Persuade, Refer), a suicide prevention psycho- educational program, will demonstrate knowledge.

Measure: 4.1 90% of students who participate in QPR training will demonstrate knowledge as measured by the post survey and will demonstrate skills by indicating their response of “agree” or “strongly agree” on the evaluation to the following statement: “I learned new skills or useful information from this presentation.”

Measure: 4.2 90% of students who participate in QPR training will demonstrate knowledge as measured by the post survey and will demonstrate skills by indicating their response of “agree” or “strongly agree” on the evaluation to the following statement: “As a result of this training, I have more knowledge about the topic of suicide.”

Measure: 4.3  90% of students who participate in QPR presentations will demonstrate new learned behaviors by listing one to three newly acquired skills.
