ALLIES

ALLIES is a program created, through the UCF Counseling Center, and now in collaboration with The Office of Diversity Initiatives, for UCF students, staff and faculty members interested in showing visual support for gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender or Questioning (GLBTQ) persons at the university.

ALLIES will display the official placard (shown right) in their offices or

This placard will identify people who are willing to provide a safe haven, a listening ear and/or support to a gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender persons, or to someone who is Questioning.

An Ally will also be open to answering questions about sexual orientation issues.

All ALLIES will have attended a training workshop called an “Advance” to learn about about oppression, heterosexism, homophobia, the coming out process and the benefits and responsibilities of being an Ally. Anyone who is interested in learning more about the previous topics are welcome to attend an Allies Advance (see Advance schedule). Every Ally will have signed an ALLIES commitment contract before receiving a placard. For more information see below.
